Oh man...that's hard. IF I WENT BLIND I COULDN'T READ, BUT I WANNA HELP THE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ummmm....I think I'd use meh powers to CURE FAMINE AND AIDS and stuff. They have braille. ^^

  • nattata

    I wouldn't make people blind.

  • shy_and_sad

I saw a question like this once. It's an unwinnable moral dilemma. I don't know for sure what I'd do. I guess my thought is I didn't cause world hunger or AIDS, but if people go blind it's my fault. I'd have decided to do that to them. I'm not sure I could take an action that would harm people that way no matter how good of a reason I had.

I think facing a choice like that would remind me this is always a really unjust world. And even thinking about this question does that too, so it's an important reminder.

I wouldn't mind giving up my own sight to help cure aids, but I'm not sure i can willingly sacrifice someone else's sight for the same purpose.

  • jupiter312

I would choose in favor of my friends, family, and acquaintances.  AIDS and world hunger aren't issues I feel strongly about, though.

curing AIDS would be great but i'm sure some disease would eventually take its place. and hunger controls our population to a certain extent, i'm sure, as messed up as that sounds. i wouldn't do it.

  • storiesandsinker

I'd choose not to cure AIDS and world hunger in that case.

I don't want my friends to go blind.

Luckily, this scenario will never happen to me.

  • SimplyNita

I would tell someone else my ideas on how to cure AIDS and world hunger. That would eliminate those two problems in the world and me and everyone I've spoken to would not become blind, since I technically didn't cure anything.

  • ItsThatObviouz

This is like choosing between my dad and my mom. But I think I would not cure AIDS and world hunger. I'll leave that to other people ;]

  • Jubilantlaughter

I would ask as many people as I can how they would feel if I cured AIDS & they would go blind. That is an ethical issue....you are virtually taking someone else's life/vision in your hands it maybe the for the greater good, but who are you to decide who sacrifices. In the end I think I would try to help those around me see how selfless an act that they would be doing by going blind to save many lives. In the end you don't die from blindness you just learned how to live with it. Aids is not the same however.

  • Paul_Partisan

I would choose to keep my vision. I didn't create famine or AIDs.

  • Blessed_Enigma

    @SimplyNita - S M A R T !

I would find another way to cure it, along with a team of people, that would not lead to blindness or such a drastic side effect. If I am brilliant enough to be able to cure world hunger and AIDS, the I should be brilliant enough to be able to either find a way to eliminate drastic side effects or find the cure for the blindness and side effects it can create with a relatively good success.

I would cure aids and world hunger, because life is so much bigger than me and the people I have encountered.  I would consider it an unfortunate but very necessary trade-off, and maybe with so many people suddenly blinded a subsequent cure for that blindness would be found...  but if not, humans are, by nature, an adaptive species and I would sleep very well at night with my decision.

  • TheCheshireGrins

Blindness isn't the end of the world but AIDS and hunger can be the end of the world for some people. I'll take the blindness.

  • MelFamy

@ccarothers - I find yours to be the wisest answer.

  • Manstration

Cure the illness. Maybe one day the ones I've helped might help me see.

  • Agent_Spanky

I don't think I can answer that. I'd be lying if I chose either one. I think we all want to help as much as we can, but never have to lose anything ourselves.

  • just_the_average_jane

@SimplyNita - genius!  I think I'd go with that too.

  • c_jamaica

I'd rather cut off my arm than go blind.

I don't think AIDS and world hunger is ever going to be solved. It precisely exists because God wants us to remember that we are very blessed to have food, therefore, we must share to those who need it most, that we are very blessed to have homes, therefore, we must donate to charity organizations that they might help in building homes for the poor, that we are very blessed to have hospitals and hardworking doctors and nurses, therefore, we must always take care of our lives and not waste it away on drugs and alcohol and promiscuity because some people all over the world can't even afford to buy medicines.

  • jeremiahstears

Being already legally blind it won't be a big sacrifice on my part. However how about keeping your eyes and just give up one meal a month, save the money and give that to your local food bank or church pantry.  It's a small step but one in the right direction.

  • MidwesternShenanigansXL

I'm a generous person by fault, and always have been. It's just the way I was raised. But in this one instance, I'm going to say No. There's so much suffering in the world already and if it's not AIDS or world hunger, it's another tragic sickness/cause.  I just couldn't do that to those who I love and interact with. (The blindless thing).  I'm going to be selfish for once.

  • G_NiuZ

that's hard. i can't do that, mainly because i don't want to see the people i care about go blind because of me trying to save the world. it is different if i would be the only one that would go blind.

hmm...that's tough. I guess I'd go blind, perhaps by curing aids...maybe someone would find a cure for blindness eventually.

  • trickery19

If everybody went blind, we'd all be helpless, at least there are people out there who can do something about AIDS and world hunger.
